SsangYong Motor, the nation’s fourth-largest automaker, said Tuesday it has begun construction to expand its
plant with the intention of doubling its production capacity by 2007.

Once the first-phase program costing 2.2 trillion won is completed by April next year, the plant will be able to
churn out 300,000 vehicles annually at its plant in Pyongtaek, about 70 kilometers south of Seoul.

Its second-stage expansion plan will be completed in 2007, raising its annual production capacity to 400,000.
