SEOUL, Oct. 10 (Yonhap) -- SsangYong Motor Co. said Tuesday its sales rose 8.4 percent in September from a year earlier on robust sales of its flagship sport utility vehicle.
The carmaker sold 13,168 vehicles in September, up from 12,144 units a year earlier, the carmaker said in a statement.
Domestic sales jumped 18 percent to 9,465 units last month from 8,011 units a year earlier helped by strong demand for the G4 Rexton SUV. But exports fell 10 percent to 3,703 cars from 4,133, the statement said.
SsangYong Motor said it will boost overall sales by launching the G4 Rexton in Europe, the Middle East and Latin America. The flagship SUV was launched in Britain on Sept. 14.
In the January-September period, the maker of the Rexton and Tivoli SUVs sold a combined 106,651, down 4.5 percent from 111,683 a year earlier, it said.
