SEOUL, Nov. 1 (Yonhap) -- SsangYong Motor Co. said Thursday its sales surged 24.3 percent last month from a year earlier on increased sales of new SUVs. 

SsangYong Motor sold 13,352 vehicles in October, up from 10,744 units a year earlier, helped by strong sales of the Rexton Sports SUV, the company said in a statement. 

Domestic sales soared 36 percent to 10,082 units in October from 7,414 a year earlier. Exports were up 0.4 percent to 3,342 units from 3,330 during the same period, it said. 

From January through October, the maker of the flagship G4 Rexton and Rexton Sports SUVs sold a combined 114,788 vehicles, down 2.2 percent from 117,395 a year earlier, the company said. 

Indian carmaker Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. owns a 72.85 percent stake in SsangYong Motor.
