Title SsangYong, KTF unveil telematics system
Date 2005.02.03

Ssangyong Motors Co. announced yesterday that it will introduce the nation's first multimedia navigation and information service this month in a joint project with KT Freetel Co.
Ssangyong Motor, the nation's fourth-largest automaker, and KTF, the second-largest mobile-phone operator, have been developing the new-generation telematics service since 2002.

Through a wireless network 'EV-DO,' the new service called "Everway," will feature a voice-recognition multimedia system that shows traffic conditions at specific locations and transmits real-time news, information on stocks, golf courses, also weather. Its navigation system also shows the routes given a phone number of the destination.

Services such as emergency assistance, e-mail and schedule planning are provided as well.

Ssangyong plans to initially apply Everway to the topl model of its New Rexton sports utility vehicle, and gradually expand to other car models.

"Everway will turn a car into a complex living space by providing contents through its high-speed network," said a Ssangyong official.

KTF will provide the network, develop the services and operate the information centers while Hyundai Autonet, a telematics affiliate of Hyundai Motor Co., supplies the terminals.
